Pressure testing is a vital step in the process of repairing a vehicle which has overheated. By blanking off the waterways in the cylinder head and applying air at a pressure of 80 Psi, the water jacket can be tested for cracking and porosity.

If a head shows any of the following symptoms then it is advised to have a pressure test before any additional work is carried out:
Pressurising of the water system
Mixing of oil and water (produces a brown sludge)
Loss of coolant but no visible defects in head gasket
Huge crack in an Audi Quattro head
