To remove and refit new valve guides the head is first heated in an oven so that the old guide comes out easily.
After the old guides have been removed the head is then placed back in the oven to ensure that it is at the correct temperature while the guides are frozen in Liquid Nitrogen to reduce their outside diameter.
Next the guide are inserted into the head and left to return to room temperature.
The final stage involves honing the internal diameter of the guide to its correct size.
We use a honing tool rather than a convetional reamer as it gives much better control over the size of the hole and leaves the correct finish to ensure proper lubrication for long life.
